GO IRISH!
Irish JV fall to Boilers, BBCHS – 11 @ Bishop Mac – 4
Bradley-Bourbonnais took advantage of three
McNamara errors in the 4th inning as they batted around
and scored five runs to lengthen their lead from 4-3 to 9-3.
They would never look back as they would limit the Fightin’
Irish to four hits in the contest.
McNamara was led with two hits and two RBI’s from Maurice
Shoemaker.
Another Defensive letdown, Bishop Mac – 8 @ Herscher – 11
The Bishop Mac JV Baseball team experienced much of the same woes in the first half of a double header against Herscher as it did earlier in the week with BBCHS. The Fightin’ Irish (5- 2-1) committed a total of seven errors in the ballgame. Mitchell Gerth led the Irish with two hits. Maurice Shoemaker hit a 3-run homerun in the 7th inning.
Irish come up short, Bishop Mac – 5 @ Herscher – 6
The Tigers were able to complete the sweep as
they picked up the go ahead run in the bottom of the 6th
inning and held in the seventh.
Jake Thompson led the Irish with two hits and two RBI’s.
A much needed Win, Bishop Mac – 9 @ Gordon Tech – 7 (9
innings)
Zach Duffield (1-0) went seven strong innings scattering seven hits while recording ten strikeouts and no walks. Unfortunately, he also recorded his second straight no decision. Sam Memenga (2-1) pitched the final two innings for the Fightin’ Irish and picked up his second win on the year. Jake Thompson paced the Irish going 4 for 5 at the plate with a couple of RBI’s. Cody Samuelson and Maurice Shoemaker each had two hits and the duo combined for six stolen bases. Jimmy Capriotti added a clutch 9th inning RBI single in an extra inning win.
Big Day for Thompson, Bishop Mac – 10 @ Gordon Tech – 0
(5innings)
Jake Thompson went 2 for 3 and added two more RBI’s in the second game of a double header against Gordon Tech. Thompson would finish his day going 6 for 8 with 4 RBI’s. Jordan Bradford and Maurice Shoemaker would hit back-to-back homeruns to cap off a five-run 4th inning. Bradford finished with two RBI’s in the game. Sam Memenga (3-1) would pitch five great innings of 3-hit baseball to earn his second win…of the day.
Irish cruise past Comets, Bishop Mac – 18 @ Central – 9
Josh Turro (3-1) had to pitch out of way too many jams caused by shaky defensive plays to earn the win for the Fightin’ Irish. Turro pitched well, he gave up only one earned run while striking out nine and walking two. Thankfully, he would get a lot of help from Jordan Bradford and the Irish offense. Bradford would finish the day 3 for 4 with two walks. He hit a two-run homerun in the 3rd inning and totaled six RBI’s on the day. Maurice Shoemaker and Cody Samuelson each had two hits while Aaron Kyrouac, Jake Thompson, Zach Duffield, Jimmy Capriotti, Dillon Kane, and Jack Zirkle all had one. Samuelson, Capriotti, and Zirkle each had two RBI’s while Shoemaker, Thompson, Kane, and Mitchell Gerth all had one a piece. Sam Memenga, Chris Norton, and Austin Herman each scored a run to cap off a huge offensive day for the Irish.
Bishop Mac – 7 @ Peotone – 7 (6 inn.)
The 2009 Bishop McNamara Catholic High School JV baseball team
couldn’t get past Peotone in a back and forth season opener.
Trailing 1-4, the Fightin’ Irish fought back in the second inning
with a two out rally. Zach Duffield doubled down the left field line
to plate Jack Zirkle and Maurice Shoemaker, which brought the score
back to even at 4-4. McNamara (0-0-1) would then take the lead, 6-4
in the third inning, before giving it right back as the Blue Devils
scored three runs of their own. In the top of the sixth, the Irish
managed to push across the tying run from heads up base running by
Sam Memenga. Both offenses gave way to better pitching and defense
in the latter innings. Shoemaker came on to pitch for the Irish and
struck out four batters in two innings of relief work. However, the
game never reached the 7th inning as it was called due to darkness
with a tie score 7-7. Aaron Kyrouac scored twice as five Irish
hitters had a hit apiece.
Duffield flirts
with Perfect Game, Bishop Mac – 9 @ Paxton – 1
Lefty Zach Duffield (1-0) pitched his way to his first win of the
year in a great performance. Duffield struck out eight Paxton
hitters while walking zero, and took a perfect game going into the
bottom of the 7th inning. Unfortunately, it would all end there. An
error and an RBI single from the first two Paxton batters of the
inning would end Duffield’s day on the mound, but certainly not
after a job well done. Maurice Shoemaker, who went 2-3 on the day
with 2 stolen bases, came on to strike out the side to secure the
first win of the season for the Irish (1-0-1). Cody Samuelson had
two hits while Aaron Kyrouac had two RBI’s.
Bradford leads
Irish to Big Win, Bishop Mac – 8 @ Manteno – 2
Jordan Bradford (1-0) powered his way through the Manteno lineup to
earn his first win of the year. Bradford struck out eight and walked
only one while scattering five hits. Offensively, the Fightin’ Irish
(2-0-1) were paced by Jake Thompson’s 3-3 performance. Sam Memenga
and Jimmy Capriotti each had clutch, back to back, 2 RBI hits in the
5th inning to break open a 2-2 tie. Capriotti then scored another
insurance run in the 7th making it 8-2. Bradford made sure that’s
how it would end as he threw a complete game and retired the last
ten batters he faced.
A Cold Win,
Bishop Mac – 10 @ Momence – 0 (4 inn.)
The Bishop McNamara Catholic High School Fightin’ Irish JV baseball
team (3-0-1) battled through cold weather to win the first game of a
double header last Saturday at Momence. Zach Duffield, Cody
Samuelson, and Mitchell Gerth all lead the Irish with two hits
apiece. Jimmy Capriotti and Samuelson lead the RBI category with two
each. Josh Turro (1-0) got the shutout victory for the Irish and
threw the ball extremely well. Turro struck out ten Redskin hitters
while only allowing one hit.
Irish
sweep Redskins, Bishop Mac – 4 @ Momence – 0
The Irish (4-0-1) finished the double header behind the pitching of
Sam Memenga (1-0). Memenga only gave way to three hits, all of them
singles. He recorded eight strikeouts while not walking a single
hitter. Memenga also provided the offense for the Irish with two
hits, a run, and an RBI. Dillon Kane added a run and an RBI in the
third and fourth inning respectively. John Martin and Chris Norton
accounted for the other two McNamara runs.
Five in a Row,
Bishop Mac – 7 @ Marian Catholic – 6
Maurice Shoemaker hit a solo home run to deep left –center field
with two outs in the first inning. After that, the Irish offense
went stagnant and gave way to six Marian Catholic runs in the 2nd
inning. Josh Turro made a relief appearance and did not allow a run
in over four innings of work, as the score remained 1-6 heading to
the 6th inning. Jack Zirkle led off with a base hit to right field.
The next five hitters would all draw walks or hit into an error. All
five hitters would eventually come around to score in the inning to
cap off six run 6th inning leading to a 7-6 Irish lead. Turro and
his defense would hold in the bottom half to preserve the lead. The
game was then called due to darkness making it five wins in a row
for McNamara.
